ALL-STAR FESTIVITIES IN NEW ORLEANS
  • Rico Peron of Santa Cruz won the home-run derby, edging Miguel Lee of Mexico City. Ruben Aguilar of Scranton and Karim Baez of Columbus reached the second round. Giovanni Dawkins of Seattle, Harry Gutierrez of Syracuse, Darrell Cohen of Cincinnati and John Hernandez of New Britain were eliminated in the first round
  • The American League topped the National League in the second annual All-Star game. Harvey Ward and Harry Gutierrez each homered for the NL. Joe Lockwood of Iowa was selected the game MVP.
  • The US beat the World team 9-7 in the Futures Game. Omar Torres, a AA-prospect for Cincinnati, was selected MVP.
